Greenpeace activists play dead in front of the Energy Ministry building in Ankara September 23, 2008. A total of 37 activists were detained by police after they protested against the Turkish government's plans to build a nuclear power station in the country. Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday there was no plan to postpone a tender to build and operate Turkey's first nuclear power plant, scheduled for Wednesday. Turkey has set a deadline of Sept. 24 for bids to build the plant at Akkuyu near Mersin on the Mediterranean coast with a capacity of 4,000 megawatts, plus or minus 25 percent. The stickers on the activists' overalls read, "No to nukes". REUTERS/Umit Bektas (TURKEY)

Greenpeace activists stage a protest against deforestation near a Brazil nut tree in the Amazon rainforest in the Brazil town of Claudia, Mato Grosso State in this August 9, 2005 file photo. Paying landowners to let forests grow is promoted by the United Nations as a viable way to fight global warming, but experts first have to puzzle out how to insure trees against going up in smoke. Under U.N. plans, owners will get carbon credits to slow the destruction of tropical forests. But fires caused by lightning -- along with other hazards such as storms, insects and illegal logging -- are a big risk for insurers and investors.
