Activists fight to save the Queen's Pier in Hong Kong's financial district, August 1, 2007. ÊThe colonial-era pier in the city's financial heart became a civic battleground in 2007. The government wanted it removed for reclamation and roadworks, angering activists fighting to save what they viewed as a historic site. The saga reached boiling point in August when police forcibly evicted a band of activists and hunger strikers who had camped there for months. It was demolished in 2008.
