Auctioneer assistant Anouska Phizacklea holds the Victoria (L) and Military Crosses after they were bought for a world record price in Sydney July 25, 2006. Australian media proprieter Kerry Stokes bought the medals for A$1,214,500 ($916,000) as part of a collection awarded to Captain Alfred Shout for his actions during the 1915 Gallipoli campaign in Turkey. The previous auction record for a Victoria Cross medal was 235,000 pounds ($434,000) which was awarded to Norman Jackson, a British Royal Air Force pilot during World War Two.
