A BIOPSY IN BRAZIL.
Brazilian biologist Marcia Engel uses a crossbow with an arrow adapted to
take humpback whale's skin samples for a biopsy in the Abrolhos National
Marine Park, in the southern coast of Bahia State, 36 miles from the
Brazilian city of Caravelas, October 3, 2003. The humpbacks, annual visitors
to this coast from July to November, are the focus of the NGO "Instituto
Baleia Jubarte" (Humpback Whale Institute), which aims to study and protect
