The shadow of a young man holding his head is cast over an earthquake memorial on which a carnation was placed, as he reads through the names of the deceased carved in the marble August 17,2000, on the first anniversary of the deadly Turkish earthquake, in city of Yalova. Thousands of quake victims' names were carved on the marble memorial which is expected to be inaugurated on Thursday, as Turks commemorate the first anniversary of the quake, which measured 7.4 on the Richter scale, and which killed more than 17,000 and left 600,000 homeless.
